Forehead Lift

The forehead region often succumbs to the effects of gravity before the rest of the face. This can create a tired or heavy appearance around the eyes and more importantly, it can make you look older than you actually are.

When To Consider Brow Lift Surgery

Brow lift surgery is ideal for men and women who wish to rejuvenate their forehead and upper face. It’s time to consider a brow lift if you have:

  • Deep furrows between your eyebrows
  • Sagging or heavy eyebrows
  • Frown lines that run horizontally across your forehead

Most patients are between 40 and 60 years of age and seeking a longer-lasting solution than laser rejuvenation and injectable treatments can offer. The best way to determine if you are a good candidate is to schedule a personal consultation with Dr. Robbins, a quadruple board-certified plastic surgeon who is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, American Board of Cosmetic Surgery, American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and American Board of Laser Surgery.

Brow Lift Frequently Asked Questions

At Des Moines Plastic Surgery™, a traditional brow lift is performed by making an incision from ear to ear across the scalp. The forehead is lifted and the frowning muscles are released. The scalp is then sutured into its’ higher position, and excess skin is trimmed away. With the advent of the endoscopic brow lift, this technique has become less popular in recent years, but it’s still recommended — particularly for patients with very heavy brows.

An endoscopic brow lift requires 4 short scalp incisions within the hairline, each less than an inch in length. Using specialized instruments, Dr. Robbins is able to readjust the muscles and tissue without a large scalp incision.

Brow lift surgery is commonly performed using IV sedation or twilight anesthesia. The type of anesthesia used during your procedure will depend on Dr. Robbins recommendations. The procedure will take place at Des Moines Plastic Surgery™ in our fully accredited operating room.

Yes, you will need to take time off for rest and recuperation. Most patients choose to stay home for 7 to 10 days before resuming their normal routine. More strenuous activities should be avoided for several weeks to a month.

Most patients experience numbness and temporary discomfort along the incision sites. Dr. Robbins will provide you with specific aftercare instructions, along with prescription pain medication to help you manage any discomfort. Bruising will also occur which will last from a few days to a couple of weeks.

All incisions and scars will be concealed within your natural hairline. Any visible scarring will fade and flatten over time, making them almost undetectable.
