There are several types of breast reduction. The right technique for your breasts will depend on your natural size and shape, as well as your desired results.

The most common incision pattern is called the anchor lift. This technique is best for women who require a significant amount of tissue removal. The first incision begins around the perimeter of the areola (the pigmented area around the nipple) and extends vertically down to the breast crease. Another incision is then made in a horizontal line at the breast crease.

Yes. Once you are released from our care, you will need an additional 1-2 weeks of rest and recuperation before returning to work. You will have a post-surgical appointment with Dr. Robbins approximately 7 days after surgery. In most cases, your final results will be long-lasting. However, it’s important to remember that large fluctuations in weight and natural aging over time can change the outward appearance of your breasts. The best way to ensure long-term results is to maintain a stable body weight.

All surgeries carry risks and Dr. Robbins will discuss these risks with you in detail before surgery. Some risks associated with breast reduction include infection, adverse reaction to anesthesia, scarring, changes in sensation or possible unsatisfactory results. Dr. Robbins will discuss with you the details of the surgery and make sure expectations are understood.

Convincing your insurance company to cover anything these days can be a challenge. However, your breast reduction may be covered if deemed a medical necessity. You will need to check your insurance policy to be sure. Dr. Robbins does not accept insurance, so if you feel your breast reduction could be covered by insurance you will need to consult with another doctor who does accept insurance.

If breast reduction is covered under your policy, you will be required to supply your insurance provider with documentation of your symptoms. In general, the more documentation you can provide (e.g., from your primary care physician, physical therapist, chiropractor, etc.), the more likely you are to be approved.
