MEDICAL WEIGHT LOSS

Des Moines Plastic Surgery & Coachlight offers guests medical weight loss treatments to help address long-term weight loss goals and weight health management. The treatment is provided as a weekly injection that can help reduce appetite — and in concurrence with a healthy diet and lifestyle can effectively increase weight loss.

What Are Medical Weight Loss Peptide Treatments?

Medical weight loss treatments are designed to effectively address long-term weight loss goals and management. The process involves a weekly injection that has been proven to reduce appetite.

When combined with a wholesome diet and a healthy, more active lifestyle, these treatments have shown great potential in promoting sustainable weight loss. We are pleased to provide medical weight loss treatments at both our Ankeny and West Des Moines locations.

These once-weekly injectable peptide medications are key elements in known FDA-approved brands that treat diabetes, obesity and excess weight.

Are There Differences in Medical Weight Loss Options?

In the prescription medication industry, there are single glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist options (semaglutide) and dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and GLP-1 receptor agonist options that are marketed for the treatment of diabetes, obesity and weight management solutions.

Peptides & Their Effectiveness:

  • SINGLE & DUAL PEPTIDES: Both dual glucose dependent peptides and single (semaglutide) medications are currently known for and utilized for treating type 2 diabetes and obesity. Belonging to the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist class of drugs, they share certain similarities but also exhibit notable differences.
  • MECHANISM OF ACTION: dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and GLP-1 receptor agonist activates both the GIP and GLP-1 receptors, and as a result it effectively regulates glucose levels, reduces appetite and promotes weight loss.
  • In contrast, a singular (semaglutide) is a selective GLP-1 (singular) receptor agonist that primarily targets and activates the GLP-1 receptor. This mechanism improves glycemic control and has the potential for weight loss.
  • EFFECTIVNESS – ONE PERFORMS BETTER: Clinical trials have shown that both single & dual peptide receptor agonists have significant potential for weight loss. However, DUAL options have exhibited CLINICALLY a more pronounced effect on weight reduction when compared to singualr options. Studies suggest that dual options may have a greater impact on reducing weight in individuals with obesity or overweight, surpassing the effects of semaglutide.
  • As a practice we value the best interest of our guests and offer DUAL peptide medication as a medical weight loss option as we want guests who make this investment to get the best performing option available.

Medical Weight Loss Treatments At Des Moines Plastic Surgery – What Is The Process?

PHONE CONSULTATION

All guests interested in injectable medical weight loss treatments must complete an initial complimentary phone consultation to determine if they’re a good candidate. During the consultation, you and your provider will review your health history and discuss the treatment, expectations, and side effects in full detail. Should the guest be determined a candidate and want to move forward with treatments, an appointment for a first dose can be scheduled.

FIRST VISIT & 8-WEEK INITIAL PROGRAM

During the first appointment & dose, you will be weighed, have your body measurements taken, review best lifestyle practices and expectations while taking these treatments, and your provider will administer your first dose. Our Medical Weight Loss program is offered in a series of eight once-a-week treatments, and the convenience offered is that after your first dose, the subsequent seven doses can be taken home with you and administered by you every week. After completing your final (eighth) dose, you will visit our office for a follow-up to review your weight loss results and determine the next steps, whether you continue with additional treatments and the provider will determine appropriate dosage adjustments.

MAINTENANCE DOSES & CONTINUED WEIGHT LOSS OBJECTIVES

After completing the initial 8 weeks of treatments, you and your provider will review your progress and long-term weight loss goals. If you want to maintain your current weight, please expect a recommendation that you continue treatments at a maintenance dose with an overall goal of tapering down your dose level, and eventually entering a scenario where you no longer need/want to receive weekly treatments. If you are wanting to lose additional weight, your provider will make a continued weekly dosage plan and recommendation.

Please keep in mind that clinical studies of both GLP-1 and GLP branded medications show weight loss in subjects that were receiving the medication for an average of 3 to 6 months at a minimum. Establishing long-term, healthy lifestyle habits and behaviors through diet and activity is critical to overall long-term weight loss and your accountability to these changes will help to maintain any weight loss result when utilizing medical weight loss treatments.

Weight Loss Treatments Frequently Asked Questions

While it is true the skin can technically change with a sudden or rapid weight loss, there is not any consistent predictability on this, and would vary guest to guest. If guests ever have aesthetic concerns associated with the appearance of lost volume and/or hollowness, we recommend the collagen stimulator Sculptra or scheduling a filler consultation to see what you’re an ideal candidate for.

Yes – guests can receive Tirzepatide treatments while doing a series of CoolSculpting treatments to help further enhance their body contouring results.

The overall goal of medical weight loss treatments is to get you to your desired healthy goal weight first, and then through maintenance monitoring and management, eventually lower your dosage and ‘wean’ you off of the treatment. Your accountability to a healthy diet and active lifestyle will directly influence how you sustain actual long-term weight loss.

Medical weight treatments may be an ideal option for you if your goal is to get to a healthier weight. It is not uncommon for us to recommend this to guests who are interested in cosmetic surgery however they are not an ideal candidate at the time due to having a higher body mass index.
